staff blogs

distributed.net staff keep (relatively) up-to-date logs of their activities in .plan files. These were traditionally available via finger, but we've put them on the web for easier consumption.

In an attempt to allow us to keep a more up-to-date FAQ listing available,
I’ve just installed a new FAQ-O-Matic tool that allows anyone to contribute
new Answers to the document, directly from your web browser. Come check
out this great new tool at http://www.distributed.net/~bovine/fom/

Well, this planupdate is mainly for two reasons: a) To let you know I’m
in the process of fixing the
nightly planmailings and b) To test-plan something so I can check if
my
fixing is any good

Ok, stats should be back to normal now. Additionally, I fixed the
problem with psearch and psummary returning data that was a day old.

Before my inbox gets flooded, I’m working on stats right now, so
expect some outages. I’ll post another update once everything is
fixored. }:8)

I’m bored, can’t we have a .plan update or something?

Sure thing. Moo.

Everyone’s been busy lately, lots of organizational issues going on behind the
scenes. We started to do a more widespread OGR beta rollout this past week
and turned up another deal-killer bug so we’ve halted further client builds.
Apparently the OGR client doesn’t save work properly if you quit in the first
1% of a block. (I’m a bit fuzzy on the exact details). Either way, Greg
says he’s got enough info to reproduce the problem at will, so I think we’re
close to a resolution.

There’s also another project, post-OGR, starting to materialize. No details
yet, but I hope to be in a position to announce soon.

Moo

The latest build (313) of the personal proxy has been made officially
available for Win32, FreeBSD, and Linux/x86. Builds for the other
platforms are expected to follow soon. There have been many fixes and
changes made to this new version, including finalized support for the
upcoming OGR contest. http://www.distributed.net/download/proxies.html
