There was some unexpected server hardware downtime today, which has
led to some backlog accumulating and a delay in the start of today’s
daily stats processing. We’re currently processing the backlog right
now and hope to catch up within the next few hours. It is not
expected that any significant amount of work was lost, due to the
buffering nature of our network.
However please be aware that the statsrun for May 16 (once it has
finished processing) may be a little low, since most of the backlog
will be counted in tomorrow’s stats.

Sorry for the delay on stats this evening. The audit script has detected a
problem, and the normal trick of rebuilding the ranking tables isn’t fixing it
this time, so I’m going to have to dig into the problem more deeply. But only
after some sleep.

I’ve been working on automatically sending new participants an email with their
password in it (bug 3690). My testing means some of you will have an email from
statspass@distributed.net with your new stats password in it. Unfortunately,
the text of the email is a bit confusing right now. Suffice it to say, if
“10.70.40.11” requested the password to your stats account, you have nothing to
worry about, it was just me. :)

after extensive research, several accounts have been removed from stats
yesterday. As the investigation continues, more may follow.
I strongly recommend everyone downloads their clients directly from the
Distributed.net website at http://www.distributed.net/download

I’m going to upgrade postgresql on stats to 7.4.6 in a while. I’ll be making
a backup before I do so. I won’t be taking stats offline while I’m making the
backup, so if something goes wrong any changes made after the backup might be
lost.
I expect stats to be down for about 30 minutes while I perform the actual
upgrade.

So I’m a slacker. The statsbox DNS change just occurred.
You shouldn’t have any troubles, but be aware that the IP of
statsbox has just changed to 63.149.157.132.
