Quick note. :)
distributed.net staff keep (relatively) up-to-date logs of their activities in .plan files. These were traditionally available via finger, but we've put them on the web for easier consumption.

How I let cyp hook me like a fish on this I’ll never know…
I have no life now, Danielle is a distributed-widow, and
I don’t even have time for beer.
Work on the Mac Client must go on! :)

Just a very brief note to let everyone know what’s going on with the
stats server…
Yesterday we passed 2**31 total blocks completed, and a whole mess
of queries and scripts broke as a result.
I’m just in the process of hacking around the 32-bit limitation
and things should be back to normal shortly.

statsbox-ii development is actually progressing quite well. It’s been
a very productive week. As I had mentioned before, one of the most
interesting “features” of the new statsbox will be the incorporation
of multi-project statistics. However, in addition to OGR this also
entails historical projects as well. The databases for rc5-56,
des-ii-1 and des-ii-2 will also be brought back online and the
database structure is being broadened to tie in all projects at
a participant/team level.
For instance, here’s a sample record from the restructured
participants table:
ID: 1
email: nugget@slacker.com
nonprofit: 1
team: 1
firstdate: 24-Mar-1997
lastdate: 19-Oct-1998
rc556: 1
rc564: 1
desii1: 1
desii2: 1
retire_to: 0
Notice there are several new fields, designating when we first (and
when we last) saw activity from this email. There are global flags
which will track project ranking (this doesn’t work yet) and also
serve as convenient indicators for participation. (a 0 in desii1,
for instance, will indicate that the email did not participate in
that project)
Each participant has now been assigned a unique ID number as well,
just as we’ve handled teams previously.
Right now I’m just in the process of converting over all the data
tables to the new format and twiddling various bits. Still haven’t
quite figured out how I’m going to handle the rc5-56 data, which
predates the current teams implementation. I’m sure I’ll come up
with something, though.
Just a brief note to let everyone know that there is considerable
effort and momentum behind the scenes, even if I’m quiet.
Also, it’s not too late to make plans to join us in Atlanta this
weekend for the Atlanta Linux Showcase!

Just a quick teaser from statsbox-ii. Granted, this is skewed somewhat
because of the lack of teams from rc5-56, but still…
distributed.net project participation counts
Total emails: 113,749 (24-Mar-1997 to present)
RC5-56: 16,874
DES-II-1: 18,060
DES-II-2: 21,048
RC5-64: 99,783

From 12 Oct 1998 to 8 Nov 1998:
At home looking after “Edward David Charles Ford”, his mother and
his brother. Edward was born at 15:03 on 11 Oct 1998 local time
(05:03 UTC) weighing 3.81 kg (8lb 6.5oz).
It is unlikely that much distributed.net work will get done over
this period.

I’ve recently fixed the keyspace plots which show how much of a subspace
has been completed and/or assigned.
For sent subspaces, black means that portion of the subspace was assigned
and white means that part has yet to be assigned. For completed (done)
subspaces, black means that portion has been completed and white means that
it has yet to be completed.
The plots are available at: http://www.distributed.net/statistics/graphs/
Expect more features (ie. animation over time) shortly.
:: 14-Oct-1998 03:50 (Wednesday) ::
Stats (will be|have been) delayed somewhat tonight so that I can
experiment with the server without having to fight for cpu time.
Shouldn’t be long and you’ll thank me later.
Sorry for the disturbance. Just trying my best to keep things running
smoothly.
:: 13-Oct-1998 01:12 (Tuesday) ::
Well, the new regional support email addresses are setup. All thats left is
to add a few new volunteers who’ve been on hold until I could complete the
email alias project.

Supposedly there is a new trojan going around. Please make sure to mail me
if you think your machine has been penetrated and a distributed.net client
was illegally installed.
Also, I will be in Atlanta Georgia for Nanog 14, November 7th thru 10th.
I also finally bought Chipper and Cinderella their wedding gifts… Yes,
that’s right, Chipper is getting married Oct 24th, which I’m a stand up
guy in the wedding :)
