staff blogs

distributed.net staff keep (relatively) up-to-date logs of their activities in .plan files. These were traditionally available via finger, but we've put them on the web for easier consumption.

dynamic object code for omf & coff working. elf support still in
development.

developmental proxy code is now able to serve requests and completions
from clients and request and transmit blocks to upstream proxies.
work continues to add full standard proxy functionality.

standard proxy code partially has support for blocks > 32 bits in
size. additional work to fully support larger blocks in progress.

additional work on developmental proxy and current proxy source tree.
fixed possible problem in the key-generation of the developmental
master code that could have caused problems.

added new logic to the automatic client selector (select.cgi) so that
it will suggest alternate platforms if it knows of other “close”
operating systems.

further work on dynamic object code classes, and begun additional work
on both coff and elf object support classes.

rewrote the /webcams/ page to use server-side php instead of
client-side Java-script.

wrote a new single-process, non-forking datapipe that works equally
well on Win32 machines. this will eventually be put in place on the
ftp site in the “unsupported” directory in place of the current
datapipe.c that is there.

Been busy with lots of school stuff unfortunately. I have been able
to start on dynamic object support for coff format modules, and I’ve
already begun to restructure my omf object support using inheritance
to make adding support for new formats easier. While you’re reading,
come check out Harvey Mudd’s standings in the recent ACM contest:

Finally got my dynamic code processing class handling OMF with enough
functionality to handle simple test modules. Work on COFF support
will follow soon.

Fixed an issue with the email block flusher not being able to handle
some MIME messages sent to it where the body contained nested
multipart/* sections.

things are progressing with my dynamic object code loader. Almost
have fixup record loading complete. I’ve ruled out gnu dld and gnu bfd
as possibilities.

Well my improved caching Apache module has been completed and put in
operation and it has been performing surprisingly well. Users should
notice that performance and response of the stats box has improved
significantly because of this!

some permission problems were preventing the fetcher and flusher from
operating correctly. This problem should be fixed now.

clientcheck has been ported from sh to perl. This script allows us to
do automated checks on the url links on our client download page to
ensure that they are all valid.

I’ve come to the conclusion that threads under FreeBSD are not
implemented sufficiently well to allow for the possiblity of using
threaded perl as a caching agent. Development of an Apache module
that performs static caching (slightly different than Apache’s
mod_proxy that comes with it) has begun.
