staff blogs

distributed.net staff keep (relatively) up-to-date logs of their activities in .plan files. These were traditionally available via finger, but we've put them on the web for easier consumption.

Anyone who was hanging around in #distributed today, or kept a close eye
on the proxy status page has probably noticed that the overall keyrate
was lower than normal today. Not on that, but it’s Monday, which is
traditionally our peak day for activity.

As a result of this deflation, stats will be a bit low. You will
probably not see all the blocks you’re expecting. This is nothing to be
concerned about. The coders and network ops spent the day tweaking and
fiddling with a number of performance-related issues in the keyserver
code today. Their experimentation resulted in many periods where the
keymaster was unable to keep up with the incoming flow of blocks.

There’s currently quite a large backlog and it will likely be some time
tomorrow before everything is all caught up. As it stands, the server is
processing blocks at a nice clip. Tomorrow’s stats will be a bit
inflated, and then we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled growth and
expansion as expected.

No blocks have been lost, all is healthy, just a hiccup.

Oh, and NiteHawk is making good progress on the team member’s listing.
