As of yesterday, I have proxy code that sort of works with OGR. The parts
that are left are: (1) Master server integration, (2) Client integration,
and (3) Beta testing. We are getting closer!

Nugget to resume preparations for putting it into service.

I just received shipment of statsboxII at best.com, and am setting it
up. Some work remains to be done before it goes live, but things are
looking good.

When people in #distributed started telling everyone that statsbox-ii
was “on a truck” in transit from my office to best.net, I decided
that it probably wasn’t a bad idea to go ahead and ship it.
So, I logged out, boxed it up, and sent it on its way.
Peter should receive the box sometime today, and depending on his
schedule, it should be up and running some time this evening.
Having bandwidth will make continuing development go much smoother.

The US$10000 cheque from RSA Labs arrived today for our victory in the
DES-III Challenge. I’ll be contacting EFF, John Gilmore, and the
Libertarians for Privacy team tomorrow to coordinate.

The list of things that must be accomplished before I can send
statsbox-ii off to its new home is getting shorter each day. Today we
upgraded to apache 1.3.4 and php 3.0.6 and Linux 2.2.1.
Tomorrow I will load the historical project data (rc5-56 and all the
des’s) and hopefully find a box big enough to ship the thing.

Well, as of about 10 minutes ago, the stats database on tally is now
completely up-to-date. Flood-filling in the back logs provided a great
opportunity to ferret out the bugs in the new daily.pl wrapper script
that handles the logistics of a daily update.
A full daily update is taking just the other side of an hour on the new
hardware, so I think you’ll all be pleasantly surprised when it goes into
production.
What happens next (well, some time this week…) is that I need to
physically relocate the machine to best.net where it will have the
bandwidth it needs to feed all the stats-mongers out there. There also
remains the minor detail of porting all the old code to php, which will
take a good bit of labor as well.
I would expect to continue to see new and interesting “demo” type pages
show up throughout the week, reflecting live data. Especially after the
relocation. Thanks again for all your patience. We’re working on this
as fast as we can.
